Dry Needling
A skilled intervention that uses thin filiform needles to penetrate the skin and stimulate underlying myofascial trigger points, muscular, and connective tissues for the management of neuro-musculo-skeletal pain and movement impairments. This technique is fundamentally similar to acupuncture but with a greater foundation in evidence based practical science.
Your Dry Needling session will be performed by a dry needling specialist that is also either a Doctor of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapist, Certified Athletic Trainer, or Licensed Massage Therapist. It will focus on muscle relaxation, tension relief, the breaking up of myofascial irregularities (ie. knots and trigger points), and the release of tone- all of which are frequently the cause of pain. Dry Needling is the primary focus of this treatment session, but it will also incorporate some manual therapy. These techniques may include but are not limited to; Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, cranial-sacral techniques, trigger point therapy, and myofascial release. Sessions are 30 or 60 minutes and may include any and all problem areas within the session time. Potential problem areas include but are not strictly limited to; neck, shoulders, back, calves, thighs, and face/head. Those suffering from tension migraines, TMJ, or chronic whiplash/back pain are treated with specialized techniques as well.
